Antique Porcelain “R” Teacup and Saucer – unusual design & pattern
A very unusual and unique antique teacup and saucer marked with the scripted letter “R” in underglaze blue. The saucer features two panels of a young couple, the man with what looks like a flute; the other two panels are delicate florals. The handle is made of two individual “ropes” fusing into one at the center. The saucer is quite deep, featuring the same 4 panels as the cup; however, the saucer panels differ slightly in form and color from those on the cup. Very unique cup rim (see closeup photo). Some paint loss to details; nothing major and consistent with age. Cup and saucer both have a slight bit of roughness along the bottom; again, nothing major. No chips, cracks or repairs noted. Cup measures approx. 2 l/2″ tall; saucer is approx. 2″ deep and approx. 5 l/4″ from one end to the other.
