Description

A historical Civil War document for Private John B. McNaughton, Co. F, 108th NY, who suffered a gunshot wound in the battle at Fredericksburg, VA on 12/13/1862. He later died from his wound and subsequent amputation on 12/26/1862 at Douglas Hospital, Washington D.C.  This document is a death certificate, signed by the surgeon on staff (I couldn’t quite make out his name). Young McNaughton was born on February 7, 1840 and mustered into “F” Company as a volunteer on August 2, 1862. He is buried at Mumford Rural Cemetary, Monroe County, NY and his memorial ID is #155371.  More info can be found on findagrave.com This document is written in ink in a period hand and is in remarkable condition–save for the fold lines it has no damage whatsoever and the writing is crystal clear.
